All,

 

the RHIC cool-down to 4K for Run-25 had started one week ago on 24 March 2024.

During the electrical check-out, a short to ground in the Blue ring dipole return bus was found. We cannot run with this short.

 

While we narrow the location range of the short, we have determined that it is in a superconducting arc section.

A repair will require a warm-up of at least a section of the Blue ring, which we are preparing for now.

 

The warm-up, repair and cool-down will be about one month if the short can be quickly located and repaired.

A dipole replacement may take longer.
