Hello,

A lot of people are away or involved in the RHIC S&T Review, but let's
meet at 1pm today (Wednesday, September 17) in Magnet Division.

Topics:

- Magnet shipping preparations
- Readiness of 912 test area
- Work plan for the next year

Attending: Wanderer, Kovach, Than, Lynch, Makdisi, Haggerty

- We're getting closer--SLAC management asked for money for rigging; Peter Wanderer suggested Bob Ernst contact Sue Pankowsky about doing it with an intra-laboratory work order (I'll mention it to Bob).

- Paul reported that the new tools are done, and Ray Ceruti will ship them to SLAC today or tomorrow, along with the accelerometer.

- Mike Racine has agreed to install them in the solenoid (assuming its as simple as designed).

- CAST wants the shipment to start on a Monday, so the upcoming possible Mondays are Sep 29, Oct 6, and Oct 13, we should know soon which one to choose.

- We discussed doing any tests on the solenoid before shipping and decided against doing any tests before shipping, but trying to check for shorts to ground on receipt here at BNL.

- We discussed sending someone out to SLAC to witness the loading and the beginning of the trip across the country; I am nominally willing to be there, but we're going to ask Dave Phillips if he'd be willing to be there, since he's responsible for the rigging when it arrives here.

- There was some discussion of the state of the ASME certification of the cryostat; rules for pressure vessels have changed since the magnet was installed at SLAC, we will have to see what's necessary with the lab's safety committee.

- We discussed whether we need to provide room for a dewar near the valve box; we may need it for normal operation (to allow time to ramp down the magnet in the event of a cryo failure), and we would need it if we want to operate the magnet in a RHIC downtime. Roberto said we would need ~500 l dewar, and Don would reserve room on the upper platform for it.

- We discussed the outline for a testing plan for the magnet in 912 in FY2015. Paul thinks it is feasible to test it with the modified chimney, skipping a test with the BaBar chimney. Roberto said that cryo would be able to work on it in the period February until June or July 2015.

- Next meeting: 1pm, Wed, Oct 1, and we'd like to discuss the testing plan for the magnet in 912 in more detail, and (hopefully) address any final transportation issues.
