Hi,
Jim Mills has just reminded me to remind everyone to send comments of the low field/high field test to D. Phillips by next Wednesday, please ?!

Hi,
n Paul Kovach has confirmed that we’ll do the hypot test with vacuum (without nitrogen) and now I am trying to get the work permit (Peter C. is out today though) and we may need the SMD Traveller to be modified a little. Paul is waiting for some screws (etc.) and with that they can close the vacuum as early as tomorrow. We’ll try to do hypot test as soon as the permit is completed. After that, with the relief valves done, we’ll have the special PCSS committee walk through to approve the use of high pressure (6.6 bara) and complete another specific work permit before we can do the leak check/pressure test.
n Bob Lambiase explained to us that the C-AD Control will do the final Control system for the sPHENIX Magnet to be used in 1008 which would include not just control & monitoring systems for the Magnet but also necessary components to protect RHIC. The systems for doing high-field test will still be done by P. Joshi in SMD.
n D. Phillips explained about the design for the high-field test with J. Hock’s pro-E diagrams. During the meeting, we felt that it’s possible not to drill any holes through the pole-tips and measure magnetic field with some fixed Hall-probes (or whatever) inside. But people recognize that it may be advantageous to have holes. We can decide on these later as we can drill the holes later.
n Paul Giannotti showed us his pictures with the connectors (C-labeled etc.). The pin assignment for the numerous connections are not yet known/discovered. Paul and R. Meyer will try reading/searching through the documentation to understand those connections and pin assigments. There is a need for the disk server to put files. I’ve just found it : \\bnl.gov\c-adnas\babar (Windows ! … Linux experts can use sambar to get access) . ( After a reboot, the above address works for me. ) You need the BNL domain account and I have to give each name to Frank Donato for the access.
I’ve just given him these names for now : Faulkner, Mariette <faulkner AT bnl.gov>; Haggerty, John <haggerty AT bnl.gov>; Mills, James A <mills AT bnl.gov>; Than, Yatming (Roberto) <ythan AT bnl.gov>; Lambiase, Robert <lambiase AT bnl.gov>; Makdisi, Yousef I <makdisi AT bnl.gov>; Pile, Philip H <pile AT bnl.gov>; Kovach, Paul E <kovach AT bnl.gov>; O'Brien, Edward <eobrien AT bnl.gov>; Phillips, David B <phillips AT bnl.gov>; Lynch, Don <dlynch AT bnl.gov>; Orfin, Paul <porfin AT bnl.gov>; Wanderer, Peter <wanderer AT bnl.gov>; Giannotti, Paul <gia AT bnl.gov>; Achim Franz <afranz AT bnl.gov>; dlynch AT bnl.gov; Anerella, Michael D <mda AT bnl.gov>
Please let me know who else should have access to that disk server so I can add them.
n We’ll have a meeting with Pasquale tomorrow morning at 9:30 (via BlueJean). I’ve sent him 11 questions that I’ve collected from Jim Mills, D. Phillips, Roberto Than, Paul Giannotti, Bob Lambiase, Achim Franz (in random order) …
n At the end, we talk about the locations of the magnet (in Bldg. 912) for the low-field test and high-field test (shown in Roberto’s transparencies). Roberto showed us the legends/labels that he’s collected. He also explained his updated and very detailed (!) schematic drawing for the cryo system for the magnet test in Bldg. 912.
I’ve put my powerpoint (which include D. Phillips’/J. Hock’s diagrams, P. Giannotti’s pictures) and Roberto Than’s powerpoint presentation (which includes his cryo schematics as well as the magnet locations in Bldg. 912)

I plan to add future presentations to the above site. In general, (though it may not be very useful yet), you may look at this URL:

for some information for the sPHENIX Magnet Project --- a sharepoint site of BNL J ( It started from Henry Hocker’s idea … )
