Hello,

As I said right after John sent us this note (without figure), we probably can't use the numbers in the Note directly but we can learn from their methods.  Pasquale seems to think the same when I asked him:

" The calculation of 1995 have some meaning because you can see the the approach followed in the mechanical design and

the limits assigned to the stress level. This is of some interest if you redo the mechanical analysis with larger axial magnetic forces."

He also adds:

"all documents up to 1995 reflects the conceptual design evolution  before the construction.

The engineering design was later done by ANSALDO in cooperation with INFN and SLAC

in 1996 . The main modification was to change from 1 layer to 2 layers coil.

The papers published later than 1997 describe the coil as is."

        Hi John, Kin, Jim,
This is an excellent summary document of the technical
specs of the BaBar magnet. I noticed that it was written
in 1995, before the magnet was built. Do we know how
much variation there is between the description in this
tech note and what Ansaldo finally built for BaBar? Can
this document be relied on as an accurate description of
the magnet that we have? Thanks.

        Ed
