sPHENIX discussion of the superconducting solenoid

Hi,

In today's meeting, we first went through the draft plan for the low current (100 A) test for the sPHENIX magnet in Bldg. 912.
We've realized that before we could do this test, we would need to make all the connections and test that they work.  Roberto Than's
cryogenic group and Paul Giannotti are keen sorting this out.   Piyush Josh's data acquisition system would read out from
various inputs/sensors.  The inter-connections and inter-relationship between various components, and what need to be read out or
not,  will need to be sorted out by different parties.   Bob Lambiase entertained us with the idea of using different ramp rate to see
whether the magnet would quench or not etc.  It's said that the magnet may unevitably quench a few times during the test so that we
would have a few cycles of experiences "naturally".

In the next meeting, Roberto may show us all the connections that are involved ... and we may then understand better and divide up
the responsibilities.

There is also interest to measure the magnetic during the 100 A test.   Achim Franz will be responsible for this and we'll sort out
how the field measurements will be read out.

There was no objection to schedule a PCSS (Pressure & Cryogenic Safety Subcommittee) review in mid-May.  I've just begun
communicating with the secretary to schedule a review.   It seems that Roberto is responsible for discussing about the
pressure and cryogenic part and M. Anerella is responsible for discussing about the mechanical design of this magnet. ( I'm
confirming with Mike for the latter part. )

Jim Mills told us that the test schedules for the low-current version and high-current version will be sent out soon.  Then, various parties
will need to fill in the "cost" to estimate our total cost.  It's believed that the high-current test will cost much more than the low-current one.

Roberto's cryogenic group and the people in SMD have done some works around the junction box/valve box ... which are parts of all the works needed to
make the whole thing work.
