I was able to get hold of Wes Craddock and chatted with him a bit.
Almost 50% of the strain gages were not working anymore.
If we are to re-use the racks from SLAC, some of the cable connectors coming into the racks were in trouble. They were not strain reliefed properly and got damaged.
The vacuum leak into the insulated vacuum space he deduced was an air side leak. On shutdowns they would lose insulating vacuum to really poor pressure, leading to the conclusion a lot of air was cryopumped. There was an issue with the coax bayonet was frosting up a bit and they wrapped heat tape. Blamed it on the poor insulating vacuum.
Batteries on the power supply /dump resistor quench protection system need replacement if you plan on keeping them. You are replacing it anyway with new circuit for high power test.
Forced flow was really letting the plant liquefy into dewar, but operating the dewar at 12- 13 psig. Around 1.9 bar and pushing the liquid helium through the solenoid and back to the plant. Helium was returning at 9K, so the flowrate is around 7 to 9 g/s. The return temperature to the plant was around 9K, due to the 175W estimate from the return line. I have a shot at getting close to their flowrate using the ERL plant.

On Behalf Of Yip, Kin
Hi,
We’ll have our usual biweekly sPHENIX Magnet meeting on May 20, 2014 @ 1pm in 902 conference room.
Agenda (https://indico.bnl.gov/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=1155)
1. Piyush’s block diagram … 2. 2. PCSS review
I hope that Mike Anerella may give us his slides for the PCSS review, but I’m not sure …. Roberto’s slides are in https://indico.bnl.gov/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=1155 but they’ll be updated before Wed.
Roberto has taken trouble to gather PDF files of various calculations concerning the Magnet safety for the PCSS review. I’ve placed the files here (temporarily): http://www.c-ad.bnl.gov/kinyip/download/PCSS/ , so that the secretary can inform the PCSS members to download from there (instead of trying to transfer files of ~151 MB ). All the calculation PDF files are ~extracted from or even directly the files from our Babar server.
