https://indico.bnl.gov/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=1276 A brief summary of today's meeting is as follows : (1) For the schedule, the magnet hasn't been rotated (further delay!) and D. Phillips is still waiting for available riggers to rotate the Solenoid Magnet. Nevertheless, he's starting working on the platform, putting in railings and so on. Piyush has a student working on the DAQ and basically most things are ready as he's planning to use existing equipment. P. Giannotti and P. Joshi have measured the voltage taps very accurately ( I see like several digits in his notes ...) such that they're 99.999....% sure that which are are VT05 or VT06 and which are VT10 or VT11. We've also discussed whether we'd like to take TT01 to TT05 (temperature gauges for strain gauges) away from the Cryo (and to plug them into Piyush's DAQ system). The conclusion was that we'll let the Cryo Group read/log those temperatures. (2) I've tried to summarize J. Cozzolino's results (from his presentation last Friday, July 10, 2015) and I included the reply from Pasquale that there was no releasing agent between Coil, G10 flanges and Mandrel. [ After the meeting, John Cozollino has actually sent us the plot with cool-down only and it does seem that the difference between stress(cool-down-only) and stress(cool-down + full-power) is small. ] (3) We have quickly formed a "Strain Gauge Task Force" group which consists of J. Muratore, J. Hock, P. Giannotti, P. Joshi and P. Orfin ( I'm asking Roberto about P. Orfin's participation ). This group is to study and understand how BaBar has used the strain gauges (which may or may not tell us anything about the stress on the Magnet ?) such that we will know how to make use of them for sPHENIX Magnet, in the 100 A test, High-Field test and eventually the real sPHENIX configuration. It's expected that this group would dig through the existing documents, study/understand them and write a short report so that we (without reading and looking for all those documents) may understand/get educated as well. (4) Finally, we've also discussed whether we should do Finite-Element analyses on other configurations, in addition to just sPHENIX that we've been doing. People would like to see whether we may use ANSYS to also do the force calculation (due to magnetic field) before the stress calculation, rather than using the forces from W. Meng and applying them in certain locations/angles which may not be ideal. J. Mills will talk with M. Anerella/J. Cozzolino to see whether they can do it; otherwise, we may need to ask other people such as Jon Hock (again !). Upon D. Phillips' suggestion, John Haggerty has agreed to ask Pasquale to see whether we may contact anyone in Ansaldo who could also help us do the same type of force/stress calculation. ( In fact, John mentioned this to me 2 weeks ago after the meeting. ) Kin |
