Hi Jon,
Attached I show you the stresses on the inner Left Wall and inner North Wall of the Full-Field-Test configuration. The (net) stresses are always pointed towards the coil, even though I didn’t show the coil in the plot of the Left wall. And though the contour of stresses shown on the North Wall were drawn on the outside of the wall, they were really pointed to the inside ( the –ve sign on the Integral, near the left-bottom corner, indicated that ). There are stresses on the outside but they are much smaller.
Wuzheng has provided a macro to calculate stress/force using “Maxwell Stress” and I’ve asked him ~100 questions before I feel comfortable and gradually confident in what I’m doing. The North/South walls are the easiest to deal with as they’re just two flat plates and the other surfaces are more difficult …
I can give you a lot of numbers (of the contours) if you like …..
