1. Since Roberto needed to go to work on the e lens at Bldg. 1010, he gave the first talk. In a “review talk” that he gave in our Sept. 14, 2016, he’s considering whether to use the compressor in IP4 or from e lens (at 10 o’clock). He has figured/decided that it’s the best and easiest to use the e lens compressor loop to allow us to cool down the Magnet during summer shutdowns. In his P&ID on p.3 of the powerpoint slides, the compressor was in right-bottom corner (which he forgot to label).
People have discussed quite a bit about the slide on p.7 where connection needs to be made from the 1008B into the IR. The connection outside the shield wall (mainly the blue colored one) can/should be made as soon as the money is available and the materials have arrived. But the cryo connection into the IR should probably wait until other items are completed, such that this cryo connection would not be in the way of other works. Roberto remembered that the current schedule was to install them during the summer of 2019.
2. I showed the one-page powerpoint slide (with pictures) given to me by Jon Hock. He told us that a. left and right side walls at the bottom were complete b. end wall shims are presently being drilled c. holes in the middle brackets need to be opened for larger bolts d. if riggers are available, they’ll be able to assembly the side walls next week.
In addition, Jon came to tell me yesterday that he didn’t have the welders, and we needed welders to flame cut the end walls and assembly them together with the side walls so that the walls are in steady/stable structure. And then, we can build the 2nd, 3rd … layers one by one. I contacted Ed O’Brien and Ed told us that there are 100 hours in an account for the welders (which apparently were available ~last week). So now, we can continue to build the side/end walls.
J. Mills told us that we still haven’t heard from Florida State U. about the quotes for the Brackets. But apparently, J. Hock told J. Mills that he’d got the quote from “Streck” which machining the “roof” plates.
3. P. Rosas told me yesterday that no work had been done last week. But yesterday morning, one technician worked on the Power Supply (not sure for how long). His plan was that after the AGS/ATR finish, they’ll concentrate their effort work on the power supply/dump resistor in mid-Nov. and finish it by mid-Dec, if nothing else (in AGS/ATR) breaks down.
4. About the quench protection and data acquisition, I heard from Z. Altinbas that she plans to do the noise measurement (for the PXIe system) that Carl asked for. W. Pekrul had nothing new to report and I didn’t manage to get a status statement from C. Schultheiss before he went to his dental appointment J
5. Paul Giannotti had taken some pictures in the Central Shop and I attach them in the above-mentioned indico page in a zip file. Apparently, many parts/components have been made and ready for us to pick up. We could see a picture of two shiny doghouses/junction-boxes which look to be about ready (to me). M. Anerella said that they’ll go to pick them up when everything is ready.
6. Ed O’Brien told us that he had heard nothing from Stony Brook about helping us with the magnetic measurement in the high-field test (and beyond). J. Haggerty told us that he’d discussed with A. Franz and S. Boose and he proposed to buy the “Metrolab "Magvector MV2" development kit. It contains 3 probes but only allows us to read out one. The cost is about $2000. As such, the present plan for the magnetic measurement in the high-field test is to put in this new probe as well as the one that A. Franz has used in the low-field test.
7. In the next biweekly meeting, Nov. 9, 2016, I’ll still be in Hong Kong (actually from Oct. 27 to Nov. 11, 2016). J. Mills has been nice to agree to coordinate the meeting and write summary etc. J { … I already submitted my absentee ballot to the Yaphank Board of Election in person last week J }
