Thanks Jim for taking
care of last week's biweekly meeting (Nov. 9). Below is the
summary that Jim has written (I've only changed a couple words
like LeRHIC to LEReC :-)
( It's also recorded as usual in my calendar :

Magnet Meeting
Minutes 11/9/2016
-
Carl
presented the status of the PS/Quench Detection/Dump Resistor
preparations for the High Field Test. Because of higher
priority work, a number of efforts have been stopped, most of
which will hopefully restart by the end of November. A
mid-March test date is still possible even with this delay.
-
We need electricians to
hook up the power supply for testing. John Haggerty
suggested that Carl consider using the PHENIX electrician to
assist with this. Carl will contact Paul Giannotti.
-
The Valve Box Extension
components are completed at the Heavy Shop awaiting pick-up
by the Magnet Division. The Magnet Division will work on
inspection and testing of components and then start assembly
once they are brought to B902.
-
All work on the steel has
been stopped because we don’t have the magnetic drill (see
5).
-
One of the MAB Magnetic
Drilling Machines requires service. Dave Phillips is
coordinating the shipping of the drill to a vendor service
center in CT. The other is being used by PHENIX out at
B1008. It should be available by 11/15 so that we can
restart the drilling and tapping of steel in B912.
-
The STRECK’S Steel PO is
Sourced. Paperwork from Health Physics for the release and
shipment still needs to be done. Jon Hock is coordinating
this.
-
John Cozzolino reported on
the status of the ANSYS Magnet analysis. This is the model
that incorporates Jon Hock’s steel design for the High Field
test. He is still having problems getting the model to
converge and solve. He will continue to work on it and
report back to the group at the next Magnet Meeting. After
this work is done we need to move on to the analysis of the
steel that will be used in the final detector configuration
at B1008.
- The question of how
the magnet forces (internal coil and steel flux return plates)
change when the coil quenches was asked again. What is the
transient response? What is the status of this effort? Could
Brett Parker and Kin Yip look into this and prepare a report
and presentation addressing these questions? We will need this
before we turn the magnet on for the High Field test.
