sPHENIX discussion of the superconducting solenoid

Hi,

Tom Tallerico comes to talk with me and I told him that the temperature can be close to 4K ... 20K or whatever is bad enough !
Tom showed me the quote for TEFZEL that he's got ...it's like $3.99 per feet (if I remember it correctly).   So, the total would
be ~$3400.   He's making the purchase order now.

I've attached the documents that Bob sent me,
concerning the problematic pigment called "Phtalocyanine pigment" in the green TEZFEL cables which seem to have broken.

I'm asking Tom to make sure that we don't have this "Phtalocyanine pigment" in the TEZFEL jacket that we're buying.

Can you send us the Tefzel specification that you've got ?

Hi Kin,

 

We’ve successfully used Tefzel in RHIC in almost every case, but we had a problem with one color – green.

 

While the other colors were good, the green insulation cracked severely.

 

Some greens are ok.  I’ll attach the letter Chromatics sent me after we had a discussion on this.

 

This is twenty years ago, so I don’t know if organic pigments are still used.
