Hi,
Can Jon Hock tell us how much faster the steel work can be completed with the technicians with OT ? Jon's last estimate that at least to the end of May before we can set up the platform. So, with the OT allowed, how much faster can it be ?? And what Roberto said, is there a way to put up the ValveBox even earlier than Jon previously thinks ? Dave is out until next Tuesday ... Jon, do you want a meeting earlier than Wed. ?? Please let us know. Kin From: Than, Yatming (Roberto)

Can the last pieces going around the valve box/extension be put in last?

I wanted to let you know about an issue that came up on Tuesday. It was mandated by senior management at our PMG meeting that we test the coil at full-field before we are allowed to have the CD-1 review. So the test is part of the ‘critical’ things we need to do prior to the review. Before our next PMG senior management meeting (which will be on 3/21) we should think about how we can pull the HF test schedule up so that it isn’t falling into July where we potentially could be losing the cryo pre-cooler and also potentially delaying the CD-1 review.
Jon and I talked yesterday afternoon about it but I think we need to collectively, as a group, think about ways we can reduce the overall schedule.
Would you consider the following options (and any others that you can think of) that could pull the test back into the beginning of June? 1. Continuing the D&T work on overtime and/or weekends? 2. Purchase an additional drill, run additional crews to assist with D&T as well as assembly? 3. Do the assembly/rigging work on OT? 4. Consider welding part of the steel together with easily removable (flame cut) brackets? 5. Have cryo techs work on OT to shorten hook-up time? 6. Work CAS techs on OT in order to get PS prep and Dump Resistor ready? 7. Additional engineering to support Carl, Zeynep, Winston, and Pablo?
I talked with Roberto about the potential for losing the pre-cooler in July at our engineering meeting yesterday and he will try to verify if we can cool the magnet (and keep it cold) without the pre-cooler. He will be exploring this in the next few weeks.
If working overtime is a viable solution sPHENIX project management can talk with Berndt, David, and Thomas at the PMG meeting about getting the funds to do this. We just need to be sure that this is the solution.
Kin, would you put a plan together that can get us back a month or more? I think it would be helpful if we could meet next week and discuss it. We could do it at Wednesday’s magnet meeting. But if another time is better for everyone that is OK too. Please let me know.
Thanks, Jim |
