sPHENIX discussion of the superconducting solenoid

This time, there

 

1.      Naturally, we first discussed about the Magnet misalignment issue.  If one looks at Matt Ilardo’s PDF file, one may see that for the last control position on the Cryostat,
comparing when the cryostat is on the floor on the yellow frame and now (after we tried to give some vertical clearance for the Extension pipe) on Aug. 29, there

are differences > 0.1 in on the horizontal and vertical positions (giving rise to a total of ~0.1553 inches in magnitude).  There was almost no such difference

for these Control positions before we tried to raise the Cryostat vertically on Aug. 29.

Dave Phillips and Jon Hock are worried that the Cyrostat may be twisted and since everything is connected, the flange or even the coil can be affected.  It might be worse after cool-down.   It’s decided to try to raise it and put it down again.   Jon Hock was talking about using a swivel jack (hydraulic) but after the meeting, they went back to the original proposal of building a saddle to raise the Cryostat and then put it down.   It may take a week or two before the staircase/wooden-platform can be completed and we

hope to use this period to do this.

2.      We then discussed about various status:
(i) The Facility & Expt. Support Group has got approval to use OverTime to ask the carpenters to build the staircase/platform whenever they can.  Hopefully, it’ll star this week and finish next week.

(ii) J. Benante told me on Monday (Sept. 11) that his team pulled network cable for us using a high/difficult route from the north side door to the present Cryo rack.  Bill Eisele has installed the network switch on Tuesday (Sept. 12).

(iii) Carl Schultheiss has reported that they have finished wiring the front-end chassis and is now moving things to the rack whereas C. Theisen has written the software and waited for Zeynap to make the finishing touches.   Carl has also purchased the capacitor of the snubber circuit and he’ll talk with P. Rosas

3.      Dave suggested checking the vacuum after we have the first level platform but it seems that this might take too much time/effort.   We’ve opted to do the vacuum check after the Valvebox is connected as we normally would do.

4.      Diane Hatton talked with me yesterday (Sept. 12) at 1:30 pm and she’s asked for some manpower information from Oct. 1 onwards for this High-Field Test.   Though I told her that by the time she gathers her nos., we might have finished our test, she still thinks that she’s helping us by getting the manpower resource that we need.   Anyway, I made up a list after talking with Roberto Than (Cryo), Carl Schultheiss, D. Phillips and showed it during the meeting.   Dave pointed out the works by P. Rosas and also pulling the 535 MCM cables (40 of them).   So, I’ll modify/update and send around the list.   Diana will come to my office next Monday.
