Hi,

Ray below sent the email and I think I just forward to this list.

Cryo (~4 weeks) and Ray (~2 weeks) will happen in parallel with the 535 MCM cables installation ...   And of course,
Carl Schultheiss's DAQ and quench detection work.

I see M. Rau et. al. discussing with P. Orfin and D. Phillips how best to route the cables on the platform ........ (with so much traffic).

Kin

Hi Kin,

Valve box installation went well today.  Connections in triangle will take about two weeks if all goes well.  That will cover helium line connections, leak check, voltage taps, strain gauge connection and check. All insulation, heat shield, more insulation, then finally closing the doors.
Regards,
Ray

Hello,

This afternoon, with riggers, technicians, carpenters and Ray Ceruti’s colleagues, the Valvebox has finally been installed on top of the platform and

connected with junction box below the platform.  Joe Dambra told me “the Indium is in” --- for superconducting bus. I understand that Ray’s group

still needs to come back to work further on the junction box ….

I’ve taken a few pictures 20 minutes ago or so:

https://collab.external.bnl.gov/sites/sPHENIX-Magnet/Pictures/High%20Field%20Test/2017-10-17%20Valvebox,%20Junction-box,%20Snubber.zip

The above zip file has contained one picture showing the big silvery capacitors inside the Dump Resistor  =>  the snubber circuit was also installed

this afternoon (by chance).

Now, the Cryo group can start their busy 4-week “final assembly” of the pipes and all the connections etc.

In the last few days, Paul Giannotti, PK Feng and Dave Phillips have been discussing how to connect the 535 MCM cables between the power supply/dump resistor

and the Magnet.  It involves some wooden space blocks which makes the job more complicated.  It’s still in work-in-progress but I just state a few points (which have

become clearer today) :

(i)                 Since P. Sampson/J. Benante’s group are too busy, the PHENIX group (F. Toldo, M. Rau et. al.) will pull the MCM cables.  Dave and Charlie Folz have both agreed. (ii)               The transportation of those space blocks (from Alberta, Canada) have got some clearance delay. Nevertheless, they are scheduled to arrive next Monday.  With the
blocks on hand, we can then figure out what to do (by playing with them). (iii)             From Dave Phillips and John White (who is retiring by the end of this week), I found out where the small/big lugs   and   the copper flags for the current leads in the Valvebox were/are in Bldg. 922.   Paul Giannotti has taken possession of all the small lugs and the copper flags.

Charlie Folz told me that I might be in trouble because he needed to pull away those riggers/carpenters from STAR to work in Bldg. 912.   I figured that he might be kidding and I said

“I don’t care J ”.

Kin
