As I said on the phone, you guys need to prepare for your devices being hung/locked up (single-event upset), rather than complete damage --- I'm assuming no instrument of yours would be damaged at 1 rad per year level. You can typically just recycle the power of that instrument to solve the problem. We have a couple types of "AC-RESET" that can help you do this power-cycling (without resorting to network because network can be hung by radiation). Tony Curcio is the expert who uses a couple types of AC-RESET devices. Otherwise, Ralph Schoenfeld also has one type of AC-RESET device. As for magnetic field, I include the recent magnetic field pictures in his powerpoint from Wuzheng's recent modelling. You can see the magnetic field from his colorful plots.
