Hello Jon and Wuzheng (both are on the mailing list),
The calculation after we shift ~3 (or 2.85 cm) for the coil towards the non-lead end finished after >18 hours running in fido.
In fido, I've renamed the post-processed file as " sphenix_2019_f_shift=2p85cm.op3 " in my directory "~kinyip/Meng" .
The total foces (Fx, Fy, Fz) are stated below :
Total force on all coils = 1557.798839 -24146.5442 64023.93186 N
In the axial direction (z), vectors (forces) >0 in z is pointing towards the non-lead end. The unit is Newton (N).
Wuzheng has sub-divided the coils in 6 portions and they're shown as the colored table/figure in :
https://collab.external.bnl.gov/sites/sPHENIX-Magnet/SitePages/Parameters.aspx .
Unfortunately, the indices 1-6 in his Opera model is not the same as the coil indices listed in the above webpage.
So, I've just re-arranged them to be consistent with the table/picture in the above URL :
Total force on coil 5 = 27.35900902 -361.691559 5818.563493 N
Total force on coil 2 = 24.81472088 -320.914695 1661.370764 N
Total force on coil 4 = 727.3388676 -11595.5827 3088284.752 N
Total force on coil 6 = 7.667160835 150.7500947 -3060476.51 N
Total force on coil 1 = 763.7809508 -12169.7789 3106778.035 N
Total force on coil 3 = 6.838130287 150.6735375 -3078042.28 N
So, the axial forces (> 3 M newtons) on the individual side coils are much larger than the coils in the middle.

Kin,
I have modified conductor file and got a new oppre file (attached).
I am not sure if you are busy recently. I may go to BNL tomorrow; I can try to run it on Fido through my desktop PC (Xmanager).
I charged time card 1 hour, today.

Hi Wuzheng,
> I would assume the 3 cm shift is towards North (the No-Cut-End), as we did in the past (2015)?
Yes, the ~3 cm shift has always been the same due to the same intrinsic nature of the Coil/Cryostat.
From https://collab.external.bnl.gov/sites/sPHENIX-Magnet/SitePages/Parameters.aspx,
the coil is 28.5 mm moved towards the non-lead end --- the same as what you said "No-Cut-End" :-)
Can you use 28.5 mm ? Not that much different but since it goes through me, I'd like to use our "best estimate" :-)
And when you send me the conductor file, can you point me to where this no. sits in the file ??
I used to change this no. a few times ~3 years ago ... but I probably don't quite remember any more.
By the way, are you/we going to start with "sphenix_2019_f.oppre" ???

Jon/Kin,
Present 3d model assume zero shift (the coil center and the steel yoke center are overlapping).
I would assume the 3 cm shift is towards North (the No-Cut-End), as we did in the past (2015)? Please confirm, Jon.
I will modify the conductor file and get a new Opera-3d input file; then Kin will compile it and send it to run on FIDO. After a couple of days, either Kin and I can get the total force component (Fx, Fy,
Fz) on the entire coil-package.
Please comment.

Wuzheng,
The sPhenix group is in the process of design the magnet supports. We need to now the axial force on the main magnet coil from the 3cm offset from the return steel .

Hi Jon,
I cc: to Wuzheng (who is on our "payroll"). Can you describe more exactly on what you hope to have ?
If it's just one "overall" force (in X/Y/Z) on the entire magnet, it's kind of very easy.

Kin,
Do you have the load on the main magnet coil from Wuzheng’s latest calculations ?

Subject: Updated Forces
Jon,
From a recent simulation (a better 3d model), the Z-direction forces on pole (end-cap) are:
213,520 Newton (south pole)
-209,069 Newton (north pole)
They are higher than previous numbers.
Best wishes,
Wuzheng
