Below is my attempt to briefly summarize what we talked about during today’s sPHENIX Magnet meeting.

  1. Paul Orfin reported on the progress that the Helium piping vendor (AET) and he have made.  The intermediate design report is supposed to come by Mar. 26, 2020.
Though the spool for #4 and #5 are delayed to May 10 (from Apr. 10), Paul thinks this should not impact our plan for the summer shut down work.   Paul told us
that spools #4 and #5 are either partially inside and completely inside the 1008 and whereas spools #1 - #3 are outside 1008 and extending to 1008B.

  2. Jim Mills more than once reminded us to follow closely the “purchase orders” (PO) during this period of “working from home” era.  Because if we don’t check,
things may be delayed without us realizing.   I’ll make sure to check on this.  At the moment, there is only one PO from Carl Schultheiss.   Ed O’Brien commented
that he felt that now may be actually faster when everybody (such as Donna Rubino) seems to respond quicker than usual 😊

  3. We also discussed about the west platform because Paul needs the west platform in order to connect the spools.  Jim said that he’ll ask Brian Streckenbach in his
meeting tomorrow.  Paul said that Brian has been talking with Paul’s designer about this subject.

  4. Carl mentioned to us that by default, we’ll use the power supply and quench detector that we used during the High Field Test.  But the RHIC new quench detector development has been coming along which is a potential upgrade.  The quench detector/power supply will be moved to the final position in 1008B when cable tray design is complete.

  5. The cable trays and water-cooled busses are mainly the responsibilities of Dave Phillips (who will retire at the end of April) and Brian Streckenbach. Between 1008B and the west platform, we’ll use the existing water busses.  New busses will need to run under the upper platform to the Valve box.

  6. When Carl went through the tasks using the February drill-down spreadsheet (from Irina Sourikova), he mentioned that in the private emails, Brian said that he’s ordered all the cable
trays that we need (with probably some further confirmation from Dennis Donaldson).  Therefore, he or we should be able to take credits for the two items 302901 and 303000 in P6.

  7. Finally, I made a recommendation of adopting Paul’s suggestions that we replace monthly meetings with reporting the statuses on the Microsoft Teams software.  ( I created a “sPHENIX Magnet Team” yesterday. )   Jim said that the Upper Management may want to see something in the indico page like what we have had.   I asked Jim (and others) to come to Microsoft Teams to “chat” with us to decide when to have the next meeting (or not).
