I’ve asked Charlie Pearson … in fact, you/we should have asked this kind of old PHENIX question to Charlie anyway.

 

He gave me a quick lecture … The answer is that we do need “deionized water” for water-cooled bus.  He told me that our deionized water is not that pure/aggressive

that it’d erode the metal aggressively ;  but it does have much LESS minerals than open-air water or tap water which would have non-negligible

conductivity (i.e. too high conductivity or too low resistance).   It’s a balance between the two. He quoted the no. 10 MOhm or something.    He told me that in the old days

when they used open-air water, it has given them constant problem and struggle …

 

So, please do use deionized water !
