Hi,

Ray, Frank, Aron, Tom Tallerico (who came late) and myself were all there.  Ray explained a couple times what he needed to do.

So, what he needs to turn, are those two transverse tie-rods pointing down as shown in the picture “Transverse.jpg” on each side, one up and one down (the one “down” was not shown in the attached picture),

for all 4 sides => 2*4 = 8 of them.   Ray said if you have ~1 ft of space, it’d be enough.  The one “down” (near the bottom/floor) is probably easier as there is always space.  The one up in the picture

may be close to HCAL ??

You just need to unscrew two screws carefully to take off the cap that stuck out (as Rich had guessed in the review meeting yesterday) and you’d find the o-rings and other screws inside, then you can turn,

a no. of turns according to what Ray marked there.

And there are 3 axial tie-rods (tie-rods may not be the right name ?) on each side (north/Non-lead or south/lead)= 2*3 = 6, one example as shown in the picture “Axial.jpg”.

He actually wrote down how many turns are needed as you can see in the picture.  It should ideally be 3 ¼ turns but some (quite a few) are not.

I expect either Ray or his colleague in Superconducting Magnet Div. would do this for us.   We or I’d just like to understand a bit what he’s done in the past.

Aron just sent me 3 pictures of his in which he marked several more of them and I put his pictures and mine (Pictures/1008/”Tie-Rod Rotation (tutorial from Ray Ceruti)” :

Thank you for setting this up. I can't make it in today. Please take a lot of photos and send us your notes.

Hi,

I’ve just chatted with Ray Ceruti and he’ll show me about rotating the tie-rod this afternoon at 2 pm at the magnet

at 912,  with another unrelated matter …  See whether you may come or not …

( I’m not sure whether I can take a picture or something to show …)

Hi,

If you guys manage to meet with Ray Ceruti to show you about rotating the tie-rod (etc.), can you please also invite me also ??

I’ve heard him do that many times but I’ve never seen him do it …
