Hello,
Attached is the report from the Apr. 7-8, 2021 I&F Review. For our Magnet,
there are two direct recommendations:
(1) The risk of losing additional voltage taps in inaccessible areas, while
admittedly unlikely,
should be kept in mind and the I&F team should evaluate how to monitor the
health of
the main superconducting coil if any other voltage taps, temperature, or
strain sensors
fail. Also, before hooking up the magnet power, the team should hipot the
warm supply
cables and dump resistor system.
(2) Since any delay in performing magnetic field measurements directly
impacts the timeline
for other activities, the team should flesh out the backup plan for training
BNL staff to
use the CERN measurement system in a report submitted to NPP management.
For (1), those are the things that we're going to do anyway. ( Carl, please
do mention in the May ESRC review that you'll hipot dump resistor and power
supply cables etc. ... to show that we're "safe". )
For (2), John and I talked about it a week ago and John has promised to write
such a "backup" plan. ( If necessary, I've talked with Piyush and they in
SMD could help. ) John is thinking that we
can set up the DAQ system such that CERN guys can remotely do the mapping 😊
This way, just a person or two in 1008 need to stay there to watch 😊 We are
going and have prepared/made progress to
provide the rail/support inside the Magnet for the CERN mapper to operate
(rotate and move) anyway.
Kin

Subject: Report for the 1008 I&F Upgrade review
Dear all,
The report from the 1008 I&F Upgrade review is attached.
Overall it is a very positive report as was the Close Out.
Though there are a number of recommendations, you'll see that
they are all constructive and in a number of cases
items that we have already begun working on. Congratulations
to all participants in the review including both the speakers
and those that provided us with the information and documentation
that we presented to the committee. The committee was impressed by
what we have accomplished and optimistic that our project will
be brought to a successful conclusion, as we should all be.
Thanks for the great job everybody.
Ed
