Hi,
After I climbed the scaffolding to test my new connector with the J4/J5 sockets on the Valvebox in Bldg. 912, I called Brian Steckenbach to tell how difficult a climb that was --- my 2nd time (and Tony Curcio gave up half way due to his knee problem 😊 ). Then, I went down to 1008 Assembly Hall and trailers to see how the assembly of the sectors (of hadron calorimeter [HCAL] --- also the return steel of the Magnet) has been going on.
Somebody helped me take a picture with the HCAL sectors (attached) and you can see that only one sector (sector 13) is missing. Brian told me that they’ll install it after the break this morning, ~10:45 am. Then, we have to install the Magnet support before we can install the Magnet Cryostat (which is now still in Bldg. 912).
The real breaking news (not fake news !) in this email is that Brian, our Liaison Engineer, is leaving BNL ~on Sept. 17, 2021, from reliable source such as himself !! I first thought that he might be kidding me but after a while, I realized that it’s true. I talked to Bill Christie (who told me Brian resigned officially yesterday 😊 ) and at the moment, our division (ES&F in C-AD) doesn’t have a replacement for him yet. So his supervisor David Chan and others will need to cover his responsibilities for a while before we can hire another person or something ☹
