   Shouldn't the T be rotated before the leak check? Otherwise another leak check will be required.

Hi,

  1. The Magnet Valvebox was installed before ~noon, after a lot of efforts between the riggers and the Magnet Div. (Ray Ceruti and  Dan Sullivan et. al. ).   Thanks a lot !!  After that, Ray and Dan have come back and forth a couple times to work on the Valvebox.

Just half an hour ago, Ray told us that now it’s the time to do a leak check (or Paul called it “pressure test”).    So, Paul Orfin is

organizing his team to do the leak check as soon as possible.  This may take some time …

After that, Ray et. al. will put the cold-bar on and we can do a hipot (Carl !).

  1. I’ve just talked with Tom Tallerico and L. Masi and reminded them to :

  1. connect all the conenctors (C1 to C1, C2 to C2 ….) in the doghouse, between those connectors from the Valvebox chimney and the other ends in the Doghouse;
  2. install the “notorious” thermal sensors attached to the superconducting busses that measured ~30K last time during the high field test.  Hopefully, this time, they measure lower.   ( We know that those superconducting busses cannot be superconducting at ~30 K. )

(C) There was a worry that the Valvebox may not sit properly on the support on the platform.   Russ and Jim and others almost wanted to lift the Valvebox again 😊 But then, Ray and Dan will be very upset as they’d spent hours.   But later, Jim told me that
(i) Ray told Jim that when Travis (Technician) was screwing up the support, Ray felt that some weight on the Doghouse was lifted;
(ii) they found the product specifications of the “support” and found the spring constant (k).  So, with the displacement k*delta-x, they found that the support is taking most of the weight of the Valvebox.

  1. As shown in the picture, a small part of the bottom of the Valvebox is too close to the blue steel bar of the platform.  After discussing with Jon Hock and understanding that it’s OK, we’re going to trim a little of the blue steel bar of the platform so that we can install the screws for the door of the Valvebox.

Probably, it’s enough news for today 😊

Kin

Subject: [Sphenix-magnet-l] Installing the Valebox 10:30 am

Hi,

Ray Ceruti and Dan Sullivan and their colleagues came before 8:30 am to prepare for the Magnet Valvebox installation including putting “indium” on the superconducting busses on the Doghouse (high in the scaffolding).

They should finish well before 9:30 am.    The riggers are preparing as well and testing the lifing procedure to make sure that everything works (which it should as we did that already in Bldg. 912).

Ray and Dan have agreed (with Frank and the riggers) to come back at 10:30 am to lift and install the Valvebox to merge with the Doghouse.

Kin
