Hi,

From below and the picture attached, you can see that Cryo group already modified the pipe outside the West-Wall penetration so that the

shielding blocks can be installed without having to remove any Cryo Valves each year.

Nils Danielson reminded me and I checked with Dennis Donaldson that the power cables (for the roughing pumps etc.) have not been pulled.

Dennis said that he would try to get them pulled next week or so …

If anybody in this email knows about any other cables that need to be pulled, please let me know !!! 😛

( As far as I know, all the strain-gauge/linear-pot cables, voltage-taps, crash-button cables, cryo cables have been pulled. )

The good news is that Paul told m that after last year,

the Cryo has modified the pipe/valve by 90 deg. so that

it'd not obstruct installing the shielding blocks.

That's why Rob Karl and felt strange when we inspected 20 minutes ago ! Please check and let us know if you disagree.

It looks like the eleCtrician has not pulled the power cables for roughing pumps ...We need to wait for them but since now, you can install whenever, there is no urgency for it.

I was just speaking to Fred and Dave. We have a concern that there is a valve in the way that needs to be removed to put these shielding blocks back. Dave is contacting Rob Michnoff to make sure they are done cable pulling so we can put the shielding blocks back ASAP before it is too late to remove the valve.

Please let us know any additional information to close all the loops and we will start the coordination to put the blocks back.

But I have got a package/zip of some photos of the original shielding and even the drawing in DWG : 1008IR West Wall (from D. Phillips).zip but the drawing is not

really better than the one shown in the above-mentioned RSC memo.

In 2021, I wrote another Memo to allow the changes that Brian made (based on some density/shielding equivalency) :

So, as we chatted in your office, you should just follow according to the detailed pictures that you have taken. This is just the history.

I just talked with David Chan to see whether there is anything new. There isn't.

So, the present or last year's configuration is OK. There is a steel plate that is kind of not elegant (as people may take out that steel plate ....).

We want to build "shadow blocks" --- a more elegant solution.

( Jim volunteered to help but he has not got around to do the calculations and check the codes ... I just talked to him and urged him again 😀. Jim said he will try to find time ... )

In any case, last year's configuration is OK though I still hope to have the shadow blocks.
