Hello,
It started from approving the OPM 11.2.9 (sPHENIX User Awareness Training), that Ray Fliller and Frank Craner told me that it’s not appropriate to use LOTO to lock out the motor drives when the doors are closed (though we did that during the Magnet Mapping). ( Because LOTO is supposed to be used when you service something/do maintenance, when you don’t, you can’t use LOTO. You could use Operations Lockout. )
After Ray Fliller and Eric Johannsen (LOTO SME) discussed, it’s decided that we don’t need to lock out the motor drives. We have interlocks for the pole-tip doors (which would crash the magnet if the doors open) and we use a few bolts on each side to lock the doors anyway.

Hi,
After Ray Fliller talked with Eric Johannsen, it’s decided that we don’t need to lock out the doors.
So, I change the sentence to “When the Magnet pole-tips are opened…” in 11.2.9 : ====================== When the Magnet pole-tips are opened, the motor drives for the pole-tips are LOTO-ed to prevent the pole-tips from moving.
Please see attached the newest version of OPM 11.2.9 .

I am talking with Eric today about the LOTO business. Once we have clarity there, I will let you know.

All,
Is 11.2.9 okay to move forward as it? We would like to get this one through this week so that the training R&A’s can also be completed.
Thanks,

Hi, Ray,
The motor drives have been LOTO-ed all these time using the BNL LOTO which has been what Eric Johanssen (SME) wants to do in addition to LOTO-ing the Power Supply. They don't trust our interlock and want LOTO.
Right now, there is a box for everybody to put their LOTO keys if they want to go into the bore of the magnet, which is for both power supply and these motor-drives.
In the future, we'll do the same for the motor-drives.

I still have one issue: “The motor drives for the Magnet pole-tips are LOTO-ed to prevent the pole-tips from moving. “
Who is doing the LOTO and why? I am not convinced that this is really operations Lockout.

Hi,
After discussing with Achim and Frank, I’ve modified a little according to suggestions from (and answered questions of) Ray’s and Franks. Please find the newest version attached.
The details about Estop cables and buttons were written after consulting with Jonathan Reich ( a month ago). ( I saw those buttons and cables myself … after they showed me. )

Hi Achim, Kin:
I’ve added some comments and made some significant changes to the Working at Heights and Electrical sections.
If you would like to review/discuss, let me know.
