Hi, Just to make a note here in this mailing list that after the approval for sPHENIX routine operation (see emails below), we started Magnet cool-down on Friday (May 19) at about 12:20 pm (as the Cryo Control Room told me). The Cryo group had to open a no. of valves first (plus some other works that I don’t know about) before they could start cool-down. Kin
Hi, It's good that this morning, we already talked with the C-AD Cryo group, our gas expert Rob Pisani, and Paul Sampson (C-AD maintenance/operation coordinator) in preparation for the arrival of this approval (email below --- without the original letter). The Cryo group actually needs to open a few valves before they can cool down our Magnet and one of the valves is on the RHIC berm behind Bldg. 1008B inside the fence which is locked. That's, they also need "no beam" in order to open that valve (with some additional works). After this approval message, I have confirmed with them and we agreed on the time of 8 am tomorrow(May 19) for the "access" (no beam). So, Rob and our technicians can adjust nitrogen flow meters inside the 1008-IR. ( A few more sPHENIX colleagues will also go inside the IR. ) In fact, as Rob reminded me, I've checked with M. Sardzinski (C-AD Cryo group) to make sure that the LN2 dewar on the 1008 gas pad is operational tomorrow at 8 am. Rob told me this afternoon that he'll try to flow the operational gas to TPOT as well tomorrow as TPOT has relatively smaller volume and we have flown argon (from time to time) for a little while already. We need to wait a day or two before flowing the operational gas to TPC. The C-AD Cryo group is busy with some works at 2 o'clock of RHIC today/this evening. But they'll do the necessary at 8 am tomorrow to start our Magnet cool-down. Since this is only the 2nd time, the Cryo Chief Engineer Roberto Than will need to work with the Cryo Control Room for quite a bit initially. STAR and other C-AD groups will also make use of this "access" time, as Paul Sampson will help coordinate. Kin
Good Afternoon Dr. Gao,
