The sPHENIX Magnet has stayed nicely at the top current since 1:40 am on June 23, 2023, i.e., for > 12 days (longest stretch so far).   

A bit after 5 am this morning (July 5), I started ramping it down for today’s maintenance work, as we need to open the Magnet pole-tip

door to install sEPD on the south.

 

Attached are some pictures that John Haggerty took around the Current Leads at the top platform, where one can see some moisture developed.   As stated below,

Roberto has promised that the Cryo Group technicians will install some “air purge” instrument around the Current Leads to improve the situation today.

Thanks.  ( There is already a very small thing from Cryo group blowing dry air towards the Current Leads.  Probably not enough … )

Dear Cryo colleagues,

Attached are the pictures taken by John Haggerty.  There is some moisture developed over the Current Leads (at the top of the 3rd floor platform in 1008-IR).   We'll have a maintenance day on July 5 (in which the Magnet will be turned off).

Can you please take a look to see (in the IR) whether there is anything we can/should do to improve the situation ???
Or, you think it's OK ?

Kin,

I meant to mention that last time I was in the IR, I saw the leads on
the magnet were sweating a little.  Maybe the humidity was going up in
the IR with the door open, but it could become an issue.  I didn't towel
it down... that doesn't sound good.  We should look at it next time
we're in there.
