sPHENIX discussion of the superconducting solenoid

Carl Schultheiss together with Theo Samms and Jonathan Zubarriain did a hipot on the sPHENIX Magnet at about ~120 K (depending on which temperature sensors

you look at) successfully just before 3 pm.   Attached was the picture that Carl took and sent to me.  You can see our standard hipot voltage 520 V with

leakage current only at 0.10 mA.    John Haggerty and I are both happy to see “no hiccup” or accident of any sort this year.

 

One thing to remember:  Since I needed to stand around the Current Leads to prevent people approaching/touching it during the hipot, I noticed that

the power strip that powers the fan on top of the Current Leads and probably also dry air was disappeared.   I went to Ken Riker and Dan Martin and

they told me that they took the power strip away during the shutdown.  We all agree that we need to remember to put it back in a month before the

RHIC run starts 😊

The solenoid will be hi-potted either on Wednesday or Thursday.

Carl Schultheiss will perform the hi-pot.

I signed off on the work permit.

The plexiglass box remains in place.

Signs will be posted.

The highpot side is done from 1008B.
