Subject: MVTX readout meeting at UT Austin

Hi,

I am not  sure if I have everyone’s email that is planning on coming, I got this list from Ming, so if I forgot someone, please forward this email.

We are currently planning to meet on Wed April 19 at UT Austin to discuss the readout proposal for the MVTX detector in sPhenix and the participation of UT Austin in this project. On  Thu April 20, I plan to show and demonstrate the current ALICE ITS readout in my lab for the engineers in this group. To set the stage, Ming and I have been thinking about the following agenda:

Wednesday 19 April:

9:00 – 9:10:         Welcome (Jo)

9:15 – 9:35:         Introduction to sPhenix and MVTX, proposal status, timescales, budgets (Ming)

9:45 – 10:05:       Current and Future Phenix/sPhenix DAQ (Martin)

10:15 – 10:35:    ITS Power System, plans for MVTX power system, LBNL hardware plans (Giacomo)

10:45 – 11:00:    break

11:00 – 11:20:    ITS Readout Unit (RU) Description (Jo)

11:30 – 11:50:    ITS Common Readout Unit (CRU) Description (Jo)

12:00 – 13:30:    Lunch break

13:30 – 13:50:    R&D plans for MVTX Readout (LANL/Mark Prokop)

14:00 – 14:30:    sPhenix TPC readout system and possible CRU/FELIX for MVTX  (BNL/Takao Sakaguchi/Jin Huang)

14:45 – 15:15:    break

15:15 – 17:30:    Open Discussion of MVTX readout and UT participation

Thursday 20 April:

9:00 – 12:00:       Lab demonstration of ITS readout

I scheduled about 20’ for each presentation (except for Takao and Jin, which is 30’), plus about 10’ for discussions after each talk.

For Wed I have reserved a conference room close to the Physics department in the Peter O’Donnel Jr. Building (POB), in room POB 3.408 (Floor 2 is at ground level, so this is one floor up). POB is located at the corner of 24th St and Speedway, so if you park in the speedway garage, it is about 2 blocks south on Speedway. Here is a ling that shows the details:

For lunch, there is a cafeteria in a building about 2 blocks from POB, which also has several fast food places. POB also has a small restaurant in it.

The lab for Thursday is located on the 10th floor of the Robert Lee Moore building (RLM), on the corner of Speedway and E. Dean Keeton (1/2 block south of the Speedway garage), but I will show details on Wed. Here is a link to this building as well:

Please let me know about any changes you would like to have made to the agenda. If you didn’t get my email earlier this year with the details for travelling and parking, please let me know  and I can send it again. Just in case, here are links to the two  closest parking garages close to POB:

Speedway Garage:

San Jacinto Garage:

Looking forward to meeting you all,

Jo
