Dear all,

Sorry for the late posting, I would like to share the latest news on MVTX development.

We had a very positive MVTX Director’s Review at BNL last week, July 19-20. Thanks to everyone who participated in the preparation for the review.

The committee carefully reviewed the current status of the MVTX proposal and readiness of producing staves and RUs from CERN.

Overall, the committee is very supportive of our approach, leveraging on the ALICE ITS effort for the MVTX project, and has recommended a few action items for us to address in next ~6 weeks. We will report our recommendation responses to BNL management before awarding the contract for the full production of the staves and RU.

Based on the close out session, we expect the report recommendations to be:

1) Perform fast simulation of 3-layer MVTX +  3(4)-later INTT to evaluate global tracking performance; (to be addressed by the taskforce led by Christopher Roland et al)

2) Build a physical 3-D mock-up of the MVTX and INTT to evaluate the current design (to be addressed by Walt Sondheim, Dan Cacace and Mickey Chiu/OSI et al)

3) Conduct sensor irradiation tests up to ~1-2 MRad in next a few months to evaluate TID effects on sensor performances, noise and efficiency etc. (to be addressed by Leo Griner/Grazyna Odyniec/Yuan Mei et al )

A final report will be available this Friday 7/27.

Update on #3) – by the time of this writing, Leo has obtained the latest ALICE stave irradiation results tested up to 2MRad and confirmed ALPIDE will have no issue for sPHENIX 5-year operation/~1MRad).

Cheers,

Ming
