Hi Alex,
Sorry I couldn't participate, I got tangled up with the time zones, and
then Thursdays are always densely packed.
At this stage it isn't too big a deal, but the "generic" dump ( the -g)
of a given packet is supposed to be that, generic. This is akin to a
hex, octal, or decimal dump. This is opposed to an interpreted, human
readable dump that you get if you omit the -g, but that assumes that
there are no errors, etc. The -g exists so that you can see the raw,
un-interpreted data to verify that you see the right thing. We discussed
this, I believe - we should not overload that "gdump" method.
Also, since it is neither desirable nor practical to reinvent the vast
formatting capabilities of od, you have the -s and -x switches that send
the raw packet payload to stdout, so you can do, for example
ddump -g -s file.prdf | od -t x4
or so. You can finesse the output in exactly the way you want it.
