We will continue the bi-weekly schedule with the next meeting on Nov 2nd, which is shifted by 1week due to the BNL holiday. Please let us know if it does not work for you.

Welcome - Hideki Okawa

  • Martin: centered around an NSF proposal on EPD, but contributions would be welcomed.
  • Ming: concern about the material-thickness impact from inner detectors including the MVTX
  • Jin: Quantitative studies on-going. Expect hearing back from the team soon.

B_s update - Zhaozhong Shi

Many progress from the last update on the fast simulation setups

Zhaozhong: 40 tracks are selected with an arbitrary multiplicity of 40 tracks (20+ and 20- charged tracks)

Zhaozhong: Still need to implement initial quality cut, now has a loose cut on pT and DCA.

Slide 11+:

Jin: the new (red) curves are multipeaked and very suspicious. Suggest double check

Slide 20+:

Zhaozhong: Green curves are any B decay from the Pythia8 bbar process simulated events. (different from the label)

Slide 23:

Jin: green curve peak at very high SV-PV length which is very suspicous. Suggest double-check make sure not including long-decayed light hadrons.

Slide 29:

Hideki/Jin: Kaon rejection curves are representing a cut on EMCal E/p that 90% of true electrons survive the cut while 1/rejection fraction of Kaon also passes the cut and is misidentified as electrons.

Jin: Please also include the pion and proton in the hadron eID background studies.

Jin: the electron also has a low tail due to bremsstrahlung radiation, which should be considered in the next order of fast simulations.

Slide 34:

Jin: inclusive b-bbar events may contain phi->KK too, and therefore it would not be surprising that a phi peak shows up in the KK-candidate spectrum

KFParticle integration:

Jin: if the fast simulation output a set of SvtxTracks, then we can speed up the analysis with KFParticle following Cameron's work, i.e. replacing the Geant4 simulation + reconstruction steps with Zhaozhong's fast simulation code

Cameron: KFParticle module currently just need SvtxTracks in the input.

D0 program in pp collisions - Guanan Xie

SvtxVertexMapRefit is from offline vertexing:

https://github.com/sPHENIX-Collaboration/coresoftware/blob/master/offline/packages/trackreco/PHRaveVertexing.cc#L78

Slide 5:

MVTX matching efficiency is not optimal, with many tracks without MVTX matching in the current tracking software

Ming: would the poor matching efficiency relate to the small matching window?

Jin: tracking code tuned for high occupancy AuAu environment. Expect improvement in the future. Although it is a hard task.

Pythia8 tuning:

Long: Pythia8 tunes are either off HF yield or undershoot light hadron yield

Guannan: use the Jan-Workfest simulation sample in the current validation process. Will switch to the published spectrum for the fast sim. in the physical background study

Jin: still a tuned Pythia8 may be required to reproduce the correlated background

TODOs:

Jin will follow up offline on recalculating the DCA with respect to selected vertexes

Guannan: can we integrate KFparticle if fast simulation uses straight-line approximation and does not have the full covariance matrix?

Jin: to connect fast-sim code to KFParticle suggest only filling the diagonal terms in the covariance matrix as the fast sim is a quick and rough estimation of the performance

Cameron (on MatterMost): I just tested KFParticle where it only requires the diagonals of the covariance matrix, so just the uncorrelated parameter errors, and it seems to run.
