Dear b-jet taggers,

I thought you might be interested to see this recent paper from ALICE: https://arxiv.org/abs/2110.06104 on b-jet tagging with the ITS.

The tagging is performed using the "Track Counting" and the direct Secondary Vertex reconstruction algorithms - which are precisely the two b-tagging algorithms that we have been developing/studying for some years now. This seems like a great opportunity to learn from somebody’s real world experiences with a detector and methods very similar to what we had envisioned.

ALICE achieves tagging efficiencies of ~90% of ~30% for the two methods, respectively, and a purity of something like ~40% for both, with resulting ~10-15%-level uncertainties on the RpA. (Although I’m sure A+A collisions will present additional complications.)
