Nice talking to you this morning (last night 😊 ). Quick follow up:

 

In our repository model, new development start with a forked core-software repository on github:

https://wiki.bnl.gov/sPHENIX/index.php/GitHub_Coresoftware_Update_Procedures

Once the development is done, it is merged into master via pull request. So I would suggest for this work, the team would start with a fork as on the step 2.
