- Subject: [Sphenix-maps-l] MVTX abstract for VERTEX
- Date: Fri, 1 Jul 2022 15:53:43 +0000
Hi all,
I plan to submit an abstract for VERTEX this year (https://indico.cern.ch/event/1140707/). The talk will mainly focus on the commissioning effort for the MVTX and less on the physics
side of the detector. My abstract draft is below. Please feel free to send me any comments or suggestions.
Precision b-physics in heavy ion collisions: the MVTX detector at sPHENIX
The sPHENIX experiment at RHIC utilises a state-of-the-art detector capable of precision jet and heavy flavour measurements using heavy ion collisions. To achieve this goal, sPHENIX uses a monolithic active pixel vertex
detector (MVTX) which records data at a radius of 2.5 cm to 3.9 cm from the Au-Au collision point. The MVTX uses the ALICE Pixel Detector (ALPIDE) ASIC which is capable of a hit resolution of approximately 5 microns and a timing resolution of a few microseconds.
The MVTX is currently undergoing commissioning at BNL for insertion into sPHENIX in January 2023 with first beams expected in February 2023. This presentation will discuss the design and physics capabilities of the MVTX as well as the current status of the
detector commissioning.
Cheers,
Cameron
