All,

since I have started my long weekend off (back next Wednesday), a quick offline status update from me here -

1) Jakub had reminded me that Yasser and I hadn't gotten around to cloning the new machine you brought in. I tried this last night, but it will need a bit more TLC - the hardware is different from the other machine that is an identical twin of your others and that offered no resistance to being cloned like the mvtx-flXes. I could boot this in my network install OS, but after it's up, on touching the NVME disk I get a kernel panic. On it when I'm back in 1008. (This procedure needs one's presence in 1008 - after boot one needs to physically switch network cables mid-way).

2) progress on the never-ending decoder story -

Jo and I sat next to each other and went through a few things. The gold standard is the python decoder that offers a lot of printouts. The issue that was found when we had sat together before in a larger group seems fixed. In my debug version, I matched the printouts that the python code offers to be able to diff. Also, for reference, here is the file that Jo suggested we work with:

Hi Martin,

I checked and the following file on mvtx-flx0 should be a good one to use for
decoder testing:

/data/runs/20230322_095715_ReadoutTest/test_00000107-0000.prdf
It has 64 pixels being pulsed on each ALPIDE.

So here we are, first to confirm that we get all the headers alright now:

decoder.py:

$ ddump -p 2001 -g -s /mac_home/data/MVTX/test_00000107-0000.prdf | python3
/mac_home/data/MVTX/decode.py | grep 'FELIX header'
FELIX header found: Version 1 FLXID 0 GBT_ID 3
FELIX header found: Version 1 FLXID 0 GBT_ID 1
FELIX header found: Version 1 FLXID 0 GBT_ID 2
FELIX header found: Version 1 FLXID 0 GBT_ID 3
FELIX header found: Version 1 FLXID 0 GBT_ID 1
FELIX header found: Version 1 FLXID 0 GBT_ID 2
...

and

$ ddump -p 2001 /mac_home/data/MVTX/test_00000107-0000.prdf | grep "FELIX
header"
FELIX header found: Version 1 FLXID 0 GBT_ID 3
FELIX header found: Version 1 FLXID 0 GBT_ID 1
FELIX header found: Version 1 FLXID 0 GBT_ID 2
FELIX header found: Version 1 FLXID 0 GBT_ID 3
FELIX header found: Version 1 FLXID 0 GBT_ID 1
FELIX header found: Version 1 FLXID 0 GBT_ID 2
...

and

purschke@mlpvm3:~$ ddump -p 2001 /mac_home/data/MVTX > purschke@mlpvm3:~$ ddump -p 2001
/mac_home/data/MVTX/test_00000107-0000.prdf | grep "FELIX header" > x1
purschke@mlpvm3:~$ ddump -p 2001 -g -s
/mac_home/data/MVTX/test_00000107-0000.prdf | python3
/mac_home/data/MVTX/decode.py | grep 'FELIX header' > x2
purschke@mlpvm3:~$ diff x1 x2
purschke@mlpvm3:~$

Getting somewhere.

More after I'm back next week.

Martin

For your consideration: since the main focus of the electronics meeting now is the commissioning of the detector, should we combine the discussions into one meeting only per week at the Monday meeting? Or do you think it is still useful to have a second weekly meeting on commissioning?
