Thanks for every one participated in the meeting. Following is the minutes, which is also available on the agenda page:  https://indico.bnl.gov/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=3472

Project update - Ming Liu

Positive review. Encourage submission of full proposal. Full report to be released by co-SP soon. Specific recommendation in slides and discussed at the last topic of this meeting.

Timeline [very tentative]:

·       Update pre-proposal in two months from now

·       ALD communicate with DOE, Oct/Nov

·       Full proposal ready for submission in Dec 2017

·       MVTX detector support in FY18

Tracking software update - Haiwang

Current software status:

• Ready to run

• Good single track efficiency

• Resonable MVTX association rate

• Central Hijing embedding ~ 25 min/event

• in which Tracking alone ~ 5 - 10 min/event

Slide 4: checking DCA distribution

Haiwang: some HF jet sample are included in the track sample in DCA distribution plotting.

TODOs:

·       Preliminary test for HF tagging with High DCA method shows comparable results with previous tracking with cylindrical silicon geometry

·       Needs to understand the DCA reconstruction with displaced tracks

·       Hijing embedding simulation is next step

Action Item [Haiwang, Sanghoon]: check vertex reconstruction performance in pro.3 for pp and HIJING events, and update to the list.

Pile up simulation in MVTX - Sanghoon Lim

Time based pileup simulation hasn’t been fully implemented yet. Simple embedding style simulation for a quick look

Jin: Where 10 us comes from?

Sanghoon/Ming: we expect window of 4-10 us. 10 is a conservative choice of max pile up

Slide 3:

Jin: how TPC/INTT pile up simulated?

Sanghoon: no pile up assumed in this study. Produce lower limit of pile up with MVTX pile up only.

Slide 5:
Sanghoon: pile up increase DCA tail by 4-5%

Xuan: concern pile up in TPC make TPC not optical detector for use in seeding

Jin: suggest a topic for tracking group to tune when full pile up is ready to run.

V2 for b-jets: Jin Huang

Following suggestion from the review, adding projections for b-jet v2

Slide 4:

Xin: why there seems discrepancy in ALICE/ATLAS v2?

Jin: not sure. Energy scale difference between charge-jet and calo-jet?

Discussion on event plain resolution:

Scenarios for two event plane resolution was assumed:

·       event plane with |eta|<1: Res = 0.7, but involve systematics of autocorrelations.

·       event plane with 3<|eta|<4: Res = 0.4, which is lower in resolution based on PHENIX BBC data

Suggestions on the choice of event plane resolution will be welcomed.

HF-jet analysis plan:

·       Completing addressing comments of 1st analysis note:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1aC-Dgu4hT0OWtnOwQa1n0px-_nI83twqWZDqxsui68U/edit?usp=sharing

·       Recommendation from director’s review (see last part)

·       Highlights from our TODO list on wiki:
https://wiki.bnl.gov/sPHENIX/index.php/Heavy_Flavor_Topical_Group#Study_plans

o   Update b-jet tagging simulation with laddered detector model and + calorimetry – Haiwang, Sanghoon

o   Fast simulation to allow large fake jet simulation – Help needed

o   di-b-jet purity/efficiency in Geant4 – Darren, Haiwang

o   Completing purity estimation for the B-meson-b-jet correlation – Xuan

o   New topics: e.g. charmed jets

General planning

Recommendations from MVTX director’s review that is directly related to the topical group

·       The collaboration is encouraged to solicit multiple theory predictions in the range where new measurements can be made with sPHENIX, including error bars demonstrating how the MVTX can clarify the theoretical uncertainties. Calculation should be done on realistic hydro codes and tuned to soft spectra.

·       Cesar: request Ivan's group to produce uncertainty and light jet

·       Xin/Jin: contacting further theory groups

·       Refine 3 key physics plots, same style etc. These are essential components of the Science Case for the MVTX project.

  • Work on consistency of plots - Jin / Xin

·       Continue improve simulations. Demonstrate the degree to which sPHENIX(w/ MVTX) can resolve the situation at the LHC where high p_T and heavy flavor R_AA overlaps each other.

  • On-going by TG

Tracking software to be used for coming MVYX proposal studies - pro.3

Xin/Jin: consider coming timeline of proposals, we plan to use the build for the Aug director’s review, which is tagged as pro.3:

·       Use the Pro.3 tag for both source code git repositories and in RCF build.

  • To use the pro.3 build, run this command to initialize shell environment:
    source /opt/sphenix/core/bin/sphenix_setup.csh -n pro.3
  • To use the pro.3 source code, please use the pro.3 tag on GitHub repositories. For example, the pro.3 tagged coresoftware is :
    https://github.com/sPHENIX-Collaboration/coresoftware/releases/tag/pro.3
    or checkout locally with
    git checkout -b pro.3-test-branch pro.3

·       This tag Include Kalman-filter based track finding and ladderized tracker simulation

Solicitation production sample needed

Currently on list are:

·       p+p jetty events

·       Central HIJING background - produced by Chris

·       MB HIJING background

·       Single tracks embedded in HIJING: 25k HIJING x 30 single track per event, 1-30 GeV/c (to be confirmed)

Please add you request too.
