QM poster discussion

QM poster requirements: posting for review 7 working-day ahead of QM23, i.e., Aug 24. Draft comment by the collaboration via BNL-Invenio (https://indico.bnl.gov/event/19188/ will have the link to the location), and approval by Conveners then Anne/PubBoard

  • The performance plots need preliminary approval and coordination among posters on overlaps in the use of the plots.
  • New simulation results require an analysis note, required by Aug 17 (plots in previously approved analysis notes can be used directly without new approvals)

b-jets : Jakub Kvapil

Slide 3:

Jin/Jakub/Zhaozhong: secondary vertex finding is analysis dependent, which is defined post-tracking and require TG coordination.

Slide 5:

Jin: In the past Pythia8 decayed all HV resonances, which lead to GetPrimaryParticleRange() in truth jet automatically finding Truth jet tagging in the past use. Now we have the choice of two definitions of truth jets with or without HF hadron decayed.

Slide 8:

  • Jin: Constant field assumption is OK. Good to verify the fix to the field value is incorporated.
  • Xin/Jakub: single component of DCA_x or y is not useful, and DCA_sign-track momentum correlation is not directly useful for the analysis.
  • Jin: with jet and track momentum, DCA can be defined as a signed value to indicate whether is along the jet axis (True DCA) or backward to the jet direction (fake DCA side band). This can be found in the analysis note: https://indico.bnl.gov/event/3959/ and the corresponding GitHub repo: https://sphenix-collaboration.github.io/doxygen/db/d4c/classBJetModule.html

Slide 10:

  • Jin: please also double-check parton-based tagging which is used in sPH-HF-2017-001 for cross-check

Slide 13:

  • Jin: To double-check the signed DCA calculation with a cut on the truth B-decay product. It should show a distinct positive-biased distribution.

Slide 17:

  • Jin: useful to cross-check the purity vs efficiency plot with past studies

Slide 19:

  • Could double-check whether the low-pt-truth and the high-pt-reco tail is a true feature by normalizing the 2D plot against the pt-truth statistics.

MC request:

  • HF signal 10GeV+ sample with an enhanced b/c fraction
  • Jin: good point. Will coordinate with JS TG and Chris

General comment (Jin):

  • This is extremely important work for the TG, to revive the b-jet studies given up-to-date detector simulation.
  • Given note sPH-HF-2017-001 on the same topic, there will be a higher bar to pass a new set of results. We should expect a change in performance given the detector and simulation updates, nonetheless, they would need to be understood before new changes can be approved by the collaboration.
  • Nonetheless, a subset of new plots, e.g. signed-DCA distribution could be good new results updated both for pile-up simulation and new detector performance.

Dear heavy flavor and quarkonia enthusiasts,

Thank you to everyone who has filled in our poll for a new meeting time. Currently, we will not meet tomorrow at 3pm but we will meet next week.

Our next meeting will take place at 10am ET on Monday, July 17th. As well as the usual news from the convenors we also want to have a discussion on upcoming posters at conferences, specifically Quark Matter and the RHIC&AGS AUM. We don’t expect or require posters at this stage but we would like all members presenting HF or Quarkonia posters to join and help plan what we want to show. That includes the following people:

Jakub Kvapil (Los Alamos National Laboratory), Sasha Lebedev (ISU), Yasser Corrales Morales (LANL), Zhaozhong Shi (Los Alamos National Laboratory)

The meeting agenda can be found here https://indico.bnl.gov/event/20086/
