sPHENIX discussion of physics

Dear sPHENIX colleagues,

Given the time-sensitive, Collaboration-wide efforts this week related to 
preparing QM materials, the commissioning summary document, and the Beam Use 
Proposal, we will not hold our bi-weekly Physics Coordination Meeting on 
Friday.

In lieu of a meeting, we wanted to write a few words about our path to 
physics measurements with Year-1 commissioning data.

We understand that for many of our junior sPHENIX colleagues, it is important 
to have an identifiable role on physics production with this year’s data and 
that the unexpected end of Run-2023 has resulted in significant uncertainty 
and concern.

In the weeks immediately after Quark Matter, we intend to have a fresh focus 
on the preparation of Year-1 physics measurements and papers, including a 
forum for brainstorming possible measurements and, on a short timescale, 
organizing “analysis kick-off” meetings to collect person power. It is our 
strong intention that the process is open and inclusive, and that any junior 
person who is willing to play a significant role in the first physics 
measurements will be able to do so.

We are also happy to chat with any member of the Collaboration about their 
plans, concerns, or ideas.
