Hi Cameron,

Very nice slides. I have a few comments and suggestions for you to consider

1) Slide 5, may consider to swap the order between Cold QCD and Bulk.

2) Slide 6
     - top left, I would recommend to use logX to enlarge the low pT region.
     - top right, this is probably hard for the audience to catch, can you use some translated words for X-axis?
     - bottom left, just curious is this the residual from telescope projection, would be nice to quote the equivalent single hit resolution.
     - bottom right, you label this is data, my understanding is the so-called noise run (not beam or cosmic?). What is the efficiency at this level of noise?

3) Slide 7,
     - first and second bullets, "influence v1" reads a bit vague, may give the impression this is complicated. Actually the signature is very unique, the B-field will introduce exactly v1(c) = - v1(cbar), and also B-field induced v1(c) >> v1(q). Together with the QGP induced v1 (this is the same for c and cbar), one would expect a large v1 slope for D and D-bar and there will be a split due to the B-field between them.
     - last bullet, I am not sure what you mean exactly here. Can you elaborate?

4) Slide 9,
    - you may want to add a couple of bullets as take-away message for audience, I would suggest something like
"Charm hadrochemistry measurements offer new insights in hadronization in both p+p and heavy-ion collisions"

5) Slide 10,
     - similar here, you may want to add a couple of points. In my opinion, the goal of these measurements are 1) to constrain the heavy-quark spatial diffusion coefficient 2) to better understand parton energy loss mechanism in QGP.

6) Slide 11,
     - topo clusters, you may want to clarify what it means here.
     - cross-working group collaboration, this is sPHENIX internal, I don't think it is particularly interesting for outside audiences.
     - last bullet, the words seem very technical. My understanding is that mis-PID is considered here, so maybe rephrase it.

7) Slide 13,
     - right figure, the most interesting would be how this is compared to charm- and light-jets. I remember there are theory predictions on this, would be nice to put them together to better illustrate our sensitivity to distinguish this measurement not only just from 1, but also in comparison to c- and light jets.

8) Slide 17,
     - "ML hardware tagging can reject significant background". My understanding is that this is the goal, is still under development. I would suggest to rephrase as "ML hardware tagging development in order to reject significant background".

Thanks and Best Regards

/xin

Dear collaborators,

I will be giving the heavy flavor overview talk at Quark Matter. I’ve uploaded my slides to Invenio and they can be found here

My talk is 15 + 5. For context, the talk is scheduled to be given the day after Ed’s overview talk, 1 hour after Tim’s jet talk but before the poster session. The title of the talk that the organizers wrote down is “Heavy Flavor machine learning algorithms for Fast Data Processing in sPHENIX” but I have it titled as “Heavy flavor prospects at sPHENIX”. I also have 2 alternate slides at the start of my backup in case people think they’re better than what I have in the main body.

Please send me any comments and suggestions so I can best represent the awesome work of the collaboration.

Cheers,
Cameron
