Hi All,
Here’s a brief set of minutes. Let me know if more detailed minutes are needed (I have them but they are rather messy).
Regards,
Ron
1) Astro says the sEPD support frame will be ready by Monday March 27. This is only 1-2 weeks before the go/no-go date of April 9, which is cutting it too close. We think the order was originally placed in August with expected delivery by November - Rosi will find the old contracts and post/share them. If they’ve failed to meet the contract, we can put some pressure on them to get it done more quickly.
2) The strongback design is 12 petals each exactly 60 degrees, which seems to leave no tolerance for fitting pieces in a circle (360/6 = 60). Design to be discussed during the Tuesday meeting. The original budget for the 12 petals was $10k, it seems likely this will cost more - Rosi may be able to get more money from Allena (NSF). Clips and small pieces are out for bids at companies near CU Boulder. We need to plan carefully for transporting the strong back petals into the IR - once the shield wall is up, the only way in is through the plug door. The petals will physically fit the dimensions of the door. The weight limit for what can be carried is 40 lbs - the petals with sectors mounted should be below this but they’ll need to be weighed, and the engineers will need to be consulted to make sure no special tools or procedures will be needed.
3) The electronics box design is completed and awaiting final sign off. Dan C hasn’t posted the drawings yet. The box itself needs to be machined but it should be a straightforward process, and Dan will order the rest of the parts (from McMaster-Carr). We’ll want to have a very clear plan for how the box will be mounted.
4) Roland has done the routing plans for all sEPD cabling. The current plan is to place the fiber bundles prior to installing the strong back, but this is a problem in terms of where the fiber bundles will be placed on the detector (seemingly nothing to hang them on). The fiber bundles are roughly all the same size, so there will need to be some way to take up slack. There is also a need for stress/strain relief near the electronics box.
5) We still need first articles from Meritec and CEM. Rosi will contact them by COB tomorrow.
6) Additional sectors for Run-24 can be made if needed. We’d like to have all 744 channels active, but this is much more important for the p+p and p+Au running than it is for Au+Au.
