Calibration of sPHENIX Event Characterization Detectors
sPHENIX is a brand new state-of-the-art jet detector at RHIC designed for detailed studies of the quark-gluon-plasma and required to complete RHIC’s science mission. sPHENIX began commissioning its subsystems in 2023 with Au+Au collisions at 200 GeV and continues its commissioning journey with p+p collisions this year (2024). Equipped with mid-rapidity tracking detectors, electromagnetic and hadronic calorimeters, sPHENIX is primed to measure hard probes such as jets and heavy flavor quarks.
Precise measurement of jets and heavy flavor quarks as function of centrality and event plane will be measured with sPHENIX forward detectors; namely the minimum bias detector, event plane detector and the zero degree calorimeter-shower max detector system.
This talk will discuss the calibration of these subsystems with the collected data in preparation for the high statistics Au+Au data expected in 2025.
