Chris et al.,

Now that all the hard work by you and others on putting a realistic EMCAL and HCAL geometry is being finalized, it's probably time to add a little more realism to the magnet model.

I huddled with Richie and Jim this afternoon, and I think a slightly better model than the 1*X_0 of Al plunked down in the middle of the cryostat that I originally suggested would be 3 concentric annular cylinders of Al--the two walls of the cryostat and the coil and mandrel. The alloy is 5083 Al, which is about 5% Mg and the rest almost pure Al. The actual geometry is somewhat more complicated than that, but I think this is a good (and easy) next approximation. I *think* this captures most of the material, and it adds up to about 1.4*X_0.

Here are the dimensions that we have from the as-built drawings... hopefully there is no collision with dimensions you have for the HCAL.

Inner radius Thickness Length
mm mm mm
Cryostat inner wall 1420 10.0 3790
Coil and bobbin 1508 93.8 3615
Cryostat outer wall 1745 25.0 3790
