We had a productive week at StonyBrook University working on sPHENIX simulation, with 41 collaborators from 18 institutes participating. All the talks was posted to the agenda and available for open-access: https://indico.bnl.gov/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=1237
Following two days of introductory and tutorial sessions, we made many progress on multiple fronts. A subset of work is highlighted here · Abhisek, Liang, Ron, Sarah, Xiaochun and others checked the calorimeter performance with the simulation data produced this week with new inner HCal · Alan, Dave, Dennis, Mike, Peter and others prepared the tracking and HEPMC IO for b-jet studies · Mike made many progress on the new jet finder and evaluator · Kolja tried the sPHENIX software running on the STAR cluster · Jeff investigated dE/dX-PID using sPHENIX TPC · Nils started implementing new generic tower objects · Eliton, Nils and I looked at tuning simulating and next level analysis of EMCal · Nils, Ralf and many StonyBrook students implemented a new forward HCal for both fsPHENIX and ePHENIX · Chris and I trying to verify and freeze G4 part of the code base for coming productions
Let’s continue the momentum. Discussions are welcomed at the sPHENIX software email list, https://lists.bnl.gov/mailman/listinfo/sphenix-software-l as well as in the weekly Tue 1PM simulation meetings: https://indico.bnl.gov/categoryDisplay.py?categId=88
We would like also use this opportunity to thank everyone contributing to work and discussions this week. And we would like thank our collaborators at StonyBrook University for hosting this event.
Have a good weekend,
Jin Also for Nils and Alan

Dear Collaborators
This is to update that we are going to have another session in the morning time for short updates. As usual, the morning session starts at 9AM and talk start at 10AM: https://indico.bnl.gov/conferenceOtherViews.py?view=standard&confId=1237
Currently four talks are scheduled: · Abhisek will update on his study on checking the new HCal simulation · Jeffery will update on the TPC study · Martin will talk about git techniques · Xiaochun will discuss the experience on HCal prototype calibration.
We encourage more contributions. Please feel free to bring up your test plots, plans, suggestions, questions and/or concerns. And let’s keep up the good work.
See you in the morning,
Jin Also for Nils and Alan

Dear Collaborators,
Tomorrow, we will resume the workfest at 9 AM, with short discussion talks scheduled at 10AM: https://indico.bnl.gov/conferenceOtherViews.py?view=standard&confId=1237
Currently two calorimeter talks have signed up. Meanwhile, there were concerns regarding the balance between development for the sPHENIX software and freezing simulation setup for the coming cost/schedule review. We shall have that sorted out too.
We encourage more contributions to the morning session. Following our first work-session day in the week, please feel free to bring up your test plots, plans, suggestions, questions and/or concerns to the discussion.
Cheers,
Jin Also for Nils and Alan

Dear Collaborators,
I am writing to update on the on-going sPHENIX simulation workfest.
Agenda We finished the introduction and tutorial part of the workfest. All slides are posted on agenda. https://indico.bnl.gov/conferenceOtherViews.py?view=standard&confId=1237
Tomorrow 10AM, we will have the first topical discussion, that Dr. Alex Kistenev (BNL/spin group) will tell us their experience on the EICROOT framework. A discussion will be followed, so we could learn from each other’s experience.
Work session The work part of the work fest starts. Please talk to the speaker for your interested topic regarding scheduling the work. To help get the discussion started, a list of TODO raised in the talks are listed/gets updated here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1FQnd9hTe2-6xiJv62hqGFdcNL7yuCd689l_bm6zqMj4/edit
We encourage everyone to give short presentations on their progress in the morning topical sessions. Updates could be work-in-progress plots, interesting findings and/or suggestions. Please email/talk to us so we could schedule your talk.
Check list to get work started · Register GitHub account. o Our official code hosted on GitHub: https://github.com/sPHENIX-Collaboration o Please send me the user name to be include into the author list of analysis repository · Sign up sphenix-software-l email list: https://lists.bnl.gov/mailman/listinfo/sphenix-software-l · Try out the tutorials and let us know if there is any question or suggestions
·
Check out the TODO list and discuss your plan with the speaker: · Show your plots/suggestions in one of the morning topical sessions
We would like to thank everyone who participated the event. Now let’s get the work started!
Jin Also for Nils and Alan
PS: sorry for the remote users. We had major problem on using BlueJean on the SBU guest network. Martin jus solved this with the IT division. We will keep the topical discussions on broadcast.
