Chris: Production Update
Current production is still 3rd iteration from last week: The output is under · with 1d projective spacal: /gpfs02/phenix/prod/sPHENIX/preCDR/pro.1-beta.3/sHijing/spacal1d · 2d projective spacal: /gpfs02/phenix/prod/sPHENIX/preCDR/pro.1-beta.3/sHijing/spacal2d · hijing with 1d spacal : /gpfs02/phenix/prod/sPHENIX/preCDR/pro.1-beta.3/sHijing/spacal1d/ · hijing with 2d spacal: /gpfs02/phenix/prod/sPHENIX/preCDR/pro.1-beta.3/sHijing/spacal2d/
Fixed Hcal cell builder, which is used to read the production output
Jin: we will need events with pp pythia(8) to update the trigger turn-on curves. Mike/Matt Snowball: PHPythia8 is ready, which directly output to the HEPMC DST node. Chris: need to load the pythia8 binary/data and allow it to work in Fun4All cycles.
Action Item [Chris/Mike]: string out the use of pythia8 in sPHENIX fun4all framework. Pythia production.
Mike: analysis software
Summary: completed jet evaluator, moving on to tracking code.
Mike: Hijing binary is missing. Chris: Concern of using FORTRAN code in sPHENIX nightly build software. Need to installing it as external package to the nightly build.
Action Item [Chris]: install official hijing code in sPHENIX
Mike: missing the calibrated Towers. The raw Geant4 energy is saved in tower right now Jin: Needed similar thing in the EMCal beam test processing. Currently use a test code for digitalization/calibration. Try to formulate the modules and add today/tomorrow
Jet Eval is ready: Pull request here: https://github.com/sPHENIX-Collaboration/coresoftware/pull/34 which will also retire the old evaluators. Examples in using the new jet evaluation object in Fun4All modules can be found in the ntuple maker:
Action Item (Done) : After discussion, we decided to merge the pull request.
Tracking: updated verbosity to quiet down output if verbosity = 0 with Chris. Tuning on a test branch, which to be merged later. Mike/Chris: plan to use verbosity = 0 in test runs so error messages are more prominent. And use verbosity = 1 for production to keep track minimal identification information on the modules/algorithms.
Action Item [Chris]: Setup a global flag on verbosity to simplify the switch between user test (verbosity = 0 ) and production (verbosity = 1)
Chris: cluster ID will be updated soon. Mike: should not be conflicting with evaluator code.
Jin: EM Calorimeter Prototype
Page 4: QGSP_BERT_HP physics list is used in test beam production, similar to sPHENIX production.
Mike: from test run of Fun4All_sPHENIX.C (GitHub/macro repository), it appears we are not using the *_HP physics list? Chris: it is slow to run. Therefore, only enabled in production. By default from GitHub, a much CPU-lighter physics list is used (QGSP_BERT).
Page 5: Xiaochun: test beam muon/hadron composition is available from the sPHENIX HCal data Jin: an additional muon component would change the total yield in the hadron beam, since the MIP peak is used for normalizing the simulation events.
Page 6: typo on title. It is 4GeV/c test beam simulation VS data.
Action Item [Jin]: follow up and find out the muon/hadron composition with Xiaochun and John Haggerty.
Xiaochun: What was the absolute energy calibration strategy in the 2014 eRD1 test beam? Jin: Not sure for eRD1. For this study: the ADC spectrums were provided by Oleg Tsai. Then a single scale constant was used to scale all data points in the energy axis, so that the peak center for the 8GeV electron data matches.
Xiaochun: test beam 2016 is being implemented at GSU. Need to add EMCal in. Jin: The prototype SPACAL code works in Fun4All + sPHENIX setups. Will be happy to incorporate with Xiaochun’s test beam macro.
Page 8: to pass down the tower/digitalization/calibration strategy to sPHENIX analysis.
Action Item [Jin]: implement tower digitalization and calibration modules. Coordinate it with Hcal analysis with Abhisek Sen.
John L. / Abhisek S. / Megan C.: Hcal simulation updates:
Ongoing HCal studies.
·
[Abhisek]: update resolution plots with photon fluctuation and clustering
·
[Megan]: Tilt angle scan.
·
[To be identified] quantify light collection tuning VS performance.
Plan to update on HCal in the next simulation meeting.

On Behalf Of Huang, Jin
Dear All,
This is a reminder that we will have our weekly sPHENIX simulation meeting Tue Sept 8st 1-3PM. Similar to the last meeting, let’s start with updates on the simulation production/new software features for pre-CDR. More contributions are welcomed too.
