Discussion on post-preCDR production needs: Chris Pinkenburg
Storage: future production can not go larger disk size when compared with the pre-CDR studies. That suggest the need to store information in towers, rather than current G4Hit + full particle truth list. Abhisek: can we use HPSS for storage? Chris: would cost weeks for read back and significant $ due to large data limit
Need : · Digested information for absorber · Digested truth tagging based on towers Mike: working on group truth hit into “G4 showers” (record truth mean location, shape, energy deposition sums in each detector layer), and associate with towers. Plan to drop secondary truth particle, and a new eval stack. Expect x100 compression in truth storage size. This is significant amount of work. Continue working on it.
Discussion on sync keys of the primary and G4 particle list GitHub thread: https://github.com/sPHENIX-Collaboration/coresoftware/commit/40356ff74781c7e1dd24308f0203da719cacb6f9#commitcomment-14160419 Mike: do we plan to trace particle into event generator ? Chris: we should support it, at least planned in early concepts Jin: suggest another version of PHG4Particle with additional fields holding association tags to the event generator/HEPMC records. Mike: truth tracing with multiple HEPMC records will also be useful (e.g. trace Pythia B-jet embedded into Hijing).
Electron-ID update: Jin
A few update on top of last week’s EMCal meeting talk.
Page 3: low level check of the effect of the default tune of the Birk scintillation model, which significantly lowered the effective sampling fraction for hadrons.
Page 9: single particle rejection for positively charged hadrons, showed better performance than negatively charged ones.
Page 16: central hijing embedded rejection for positively charged hadrons. Similar features when comparing 2D VS 1D projective SPACAL.
Dave: would underlying event fluctuation in 1D/2D SPACAL show up to be important in other studies? Jin: guess in jet reco, the effect is not as dominant as in electron ID due to large component of energy goes to the hadron calorimeter. This still need to be updated with the updated 1D/2D SPACAL simulation. Other place the projectivity shows difference would be in pi-0 based calibration as suggested by John H.
Chris: Birk’s law is am empirical model. Apr 2014 test beam comparison did not required Birk’s correction. How much shall we trust Birk correction? John L.: As EMcal was not included in the Apr 2014 test beam, it was leakage dominated. Apr 2016 beam test would be better data for comparision. Jin: Current tune of Birk correct was compared with the test data of eRD1 from Oleg (Comparison plot included in pre-CDR). Although, there are additional need for further tuning.
Software/simulation preparation for Apr 2016 beam test: Chris Pinkenburg
Kick start discussion for processing beam test data.
A few discussions: 1. Port database over is under way by Chris 2. RawTower as entry point to merge analysis stream line for the simulation (via digitization of the simulated tower) and real beam data (via fit of the multi-time-sampled pulse height) 3. Implement detector geometry in simulation 4. After unpacking, need sample -> raw energy fit. A few algorithm tried in 2014 beam test. 5. Sync of data to RCF had proven very useful. No immediate need to support analysis outside RCF.
Chris: Raw data format same? John: yes (+ use 14bit ADC that require change in the decoder level)
John H.: plan to calibrate SIPM with cosmic ray before beam test. Additional beam-data based calibration may be needed
Jin: simulation time sample for slow neutron component. Chris: suggest a timing cut-off. This component could be small for us
Action Item [Abhisek?]: check the G4hit timing info from the hadron shower simulation to quantify the portion of hit that would leak outside the timing window of the shaped pulse.
