Laddered MAPS + TPC - Tony Frawley
Summary: on the path to implement realistic ladder simulation for MAPS, first tests of MAPS in ladder + TPC were performed. Upsilon mass resolution of 77 MeV were observed in the first try. Revealed threshold-related efficiency issue in digitization & clustering
Slide 5: threshold-related efficiency issue in digitization & clustering, which affect both cylindrical MAPS tracker and laddered ones Jin: how the expected MIP energy threshold were calculated Tony: from dE/dx calculation Marzia: loss of efficiency can be from the fluctuation of energy deposition in very thin silicon layers. Jin: we can histogram edep in Geant4 hit to illustrate the fluctuation in ionization energy deposition Tony: plan to do so
Slide 6: John: the MPAs thickness is not 50um? Tony: active layer within the silicon is 18um in the detector model
Slide 7: Upsilon mass resolution of 77 MeV were observed, which is worse than the simple cylindrical model. Improvement require update in tracking software which only handle one-hit per layer right now.
Plan: Tony: close to ready for merging code. Plan to test DCA and purity, and double check any interference with default cylindrical tracking.
Electron and pion identification - Marzia Rosati
Summary: testing electron/pion separation for Upsilon ID in large kinematic space. e-ID in single particle simulation is shown.
Slide 2: Marzia: Spacal 2D option is used in this simulation.
Slide 3: Mariza: using cluster energy from evaluator with variable cemce Jin: the current cauterizer is likely to pick up large cluster as it joints adjacent non-zero suppressed towers. It also builds larger cluster for pions when it develops hadronic showers.
Slide 4: Marzia: plan to use constant momentum rather than constant pT as detector performance scale with momentum
Plan & discussion: Marzia: repeat simulation with constant momentum and use hijing embedding. Plan to produce new Upsilon background with momentum dependence Jin: suggest use CEMC3x3 in the evaluator, which is a tracking-projection based 3x3 clusterizer. It can handle HIJING simulation too. Jin: central production for embedding is possible by requests
Secondary vertex finding in jet - Sanghoon Lim
Summary: first test of sPHENIX b-jet tagging using secondary vertex found in jet. Event cut was also shown as alternative method to enrich event with b-jet production.
Slide 2: Sanghoon: Ideal ITS maps tracker used. Sanghoon: some tracks with large DCA still included in primary vertex finding (after outlier rejection in vertex finding)
Slide 3: b-jet tagging with vertex in jet Jin: Suggest trace down few light-quark jet events with displaced vertex. Some may due to the V0 decay in light jet events and can be further reduced using a max-vertex-distance cut. Jin: y-axis use 1/(1-rejection) as the operating point has rejection few thousands to one.
Slide 4: event vertex cut used to enrich b-jet event fraction
Plan: Sanghoon: Multi-vertex cuts following CMS method. Jin: also suggest test the reference sPHENIX tracker design, which leads to performance plot for tracking review
