Hi Xiaochun,

The fieldmap is available at

$CALIBRATIONROOT/Field/Map/sphenix3dbigmapxyz.root

You could directly open it up and look at the B field values to draw yourself a map if needed. Alternatively you could use the PHField class, which has a function that will return the field value at any xyz point.

Dear Joe,

This is great! Is there a macro we could use to draw a 3D field map?

Thanks,

Xiaochun

Subject: [Sphenix-software-l] 3D Field Map in Macros

Dear sPHENIX software enthusiasts,

Yesterday the 3D field map was merged into the macro repository such that the same field map is used in the simulation and reconstruction by default. When you update your macros, you should note that:

  1. The default Fun4All macro has changed to reflect the different field map. Note that the previous configuration (i.e. before the merge) with the 2D field map still functions as expected, so the change is not a backwards breaking change.
  2. The new field map will cause your memory usage per job to go up because it is a 3D, rather than 2D, map. Keep this in mind when running jobs.

Happy simulating,

Joe Osborn
