Hi all,

Thanks for the discussion in the Software/Simulations meeting this afternoon.

We made some key decisions and also identified some (short-term) action items before we start these productions. The action items are noted in the document, but I list them here as well for posterity:

* wait for implementation of rotated MVTX geometry
* wait for a set of calo calibration items, including position-dependent noise levels - few week timescale
* update Pythia configurations to have proper tune & kinematic/process selection
* confirm what level of parton/process-level information we have in truth
* determine needed statistics for MB/higher-pThatmin QCD slices
* include PromptPhoton processes in QCD samples (TBC with a few photon/photon+jet stakeholders)
* for photon+jet samples, confirm PromptPhoton + photon-filtered fragmentation component from QCD processes
* need input on specific hadron species for HCal calibration (+ TopoCluster reconstruction development, etc.)

Hi Jet Structure, ColdQCD, Software/Simulations, and Calo Calibrations colleagues,

Now that we have reached the end of p+p data-taking, I would like to coordinate what large-scale simulations are needed to really enable our first physics measurements with the calorimeter and global detectors, including on the timescales of the DIS and Quark Matter conferences in March and April 2025, respectively.

I wrote up some thoughts on simulations configurations and samples at this google doc here(*)https://docs.google.com/document/d/1UCwLltqZ18H39pnG6aVb7HGisLo7JXhlYXuifrmGgL4/edit?usp=sharing . The document should be “editable” if you want to leave comments - and comments over email also welcome.

I would like to discuss more on this topic in the Software/Simulations meeting on Tuesday.

Note that my focus here is for our calorimeter data in p+p - not for any Au+Au physics data later in Run-25, and not (yet) for the tracking detectors. We can organize additional efforts for these in due time - I would like to start by defining the path forward for this first.
