sPHENIX tracking discussion

Here are the minutes from today’s TPC meeting with STAR:

• Software tools under development by sPHENIX appear to be headed in right direction, and are similar to those developed by STAR.
• Weizmann and BNL test chambers making good progress and ready for measurements of drift, gain, ion backflow for several gases.
• When estimating rates and track densities, sPHENIX should also consider p+p running, which has been the most stressful environment for both STAR and PHENIX.
• Laser calibration is essential for correcting distortions.  ALICE system touted to be better than STAR's due to better calibration of start and end points.
• MarlinTPC tools appaer to be similar or better than the slow simulator developed by STAR -- contact Yuri Fiskyak or Gene Van Buren for more details.
• sPHENIX should inquire with ALICE regarding current status of SAMPA chip, so that we can begin testing.  GET (General Electronics for TPCs) developed by MSU group may not be a bad choice, but inquiries by Craig indicated that the cost was high for an initial startup package.

We will have a meeting with members of STAR on Monday, June 1, at 2pm in the Small Seminar Room.

We will have short presentations on current plans and tools, followed by a discussion.  The meeting is open to all members of both collaborations.
