Hi All,

The minutes from the meeting this morning are below.

Cheers

Tony

sPHENIX Tracking Meeting March 11, 2016:

---------------------------------------------------------

Rachid Nouicer - Concept of prototype silicon module for silicon strip tracker
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rachid described how the prototype for the silicon module will be put together for testing the HDI cards, chips and sensors together.

What is the timeline? The only holdup is that the HDI is not delivered yet. Will have everything else done by the end of the month. The HDI is expected in April, so should be able to get started on testing then.

Slide 16: Gaku: Be careful to stop the Aluminum stave before the edge of the HDI to leave room for the capacitor on the back side of HDI at the outer edge. Slide 11-12 will be OK, slide 6-7 will have a conflict.
Rachid: We can cut the Al stave on slide 6 to make space for the capacitor.

Gaku Mitsuka - Ganging of strips in the silicon tracker
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Gaku gave a status report on his work on understanding the impact on ghost rejection of ganging together the readout for strips in the outer silicon tracking layers. He has the machinery set up for a fast simulation, still needs to tune some things.

Rachid: We need to have layer p0 in G4 in the correct geometry to see if the performance suffers when going from cylinder geometry to the real geometry. The urgency is that we will run into manpower resource constraints within a few months - there is a window of opportunity for modifying the p0 design that will go away.
Gaku said that he is working on both the ghost rejection and implementation of the p0 ladder geometry in Geant 4,

Tom Hemmick - verbal report on TPC progress
--------------------------------------------------------------
The designs for the field cage tooling are complete and in the machine shop, should have parts next week.
Talking to companies re field cage parts. Found a company that makes a flexible circuit card that is 16' long - will cover full azimuth of outer TPC!

The Vanderbilt group is interested in getting involved in tracking, both software and hardware.
We discussed how they could contribute.
Tom suggested something that would be a nice place for new manpower and would be useful for both MAPS and TPC simulations - addressing the history of events.
Carlos is working on the effect of fluctuations in space charge on the TPC resolution, and could use some help with that.
Sourav said that sounds interesting, will take the detailed discussion off line.
Vanderbilt has 2 grad students interested in getting involved in hardware projects, as well as Sourav. The grad students will be at BNL for the summer.
Tom said that they will be putting the field cage together over the summer, and they could use help with that. Tom, Vicki and Sourav will discuss offline.

Mike McCumber - verbal report on MAPS status
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Mike noted that he had sent a picture of the recently acquired Alpide chip and board from CERN to the list.
He had a discussion with Magnus about what we need to operate it, and he plans to start this afternoon trying to work with it.
LANL P division has 350K to divide among groups for infrastructure projects. The LANL group has asked for some of that.
The LDRD committee met early this week, will probably get some feedback next week.
The MAPS workfest is in Santa Fe on March 30 - April 1. The hotel is set and the announcement has been sent to the list.
The first skeleton C&S document should be available early next week, and Mike will be working on the agenda next week.
He can start on organizing the breakout teams once the skeleton C&S document is available.
Mike noted that Robert Redwine from the MIT hadron group will attend - good!
